Quai modulable Moodulo : comment déterminer le bon nombre de pieux selon votre configuration ?

Moodulo modular dock: how to determine the correct number of piles according to your configuration?

Installing a fixed dock on piles is one of the most reliable and durable ways to fully enjoy your access to the lake. At Moodulo, our modular 4' x 8' docks allow you to create all kinds of configurations: in a line, in an L-shape, in a U-shape, or even as a square platform.
A question that often comes up is: how many piles are needed to securely install a dock, regardless of its shape?

To simplify the experience and ensure a robust installation, we have established a universal rule suitable for all Moodulo configurations.

A simple and effective rule for all Moodulo platforms

Regardless of the chosen shape, the number of piles depends primarily on the number of modules installed. To ensure optimal stability, we recommend the following quantities:

2 sections (8' x 16' or 8' x 8' platform)

Recommended number: 6 piles
This quantity allows the four corners to be securely anchored and the junction between the two sections to be reinforced, whether the modules are placed in a line or side by side.

4 sections (4' x 32' dock, 8' x 16' square, L, compact U)

Recommended number: 8 piles
With four modules, several configurations become possible. Eight piles are sufficient to stabilize all the joints and offer superior rigidity, even in environments slightly exposed to wind or boat traffic.

8 sections (long dock 4' x 64', large platform 16' x 16', large L or U)

Recommended number: 12 piles
This quantity effectively covers all four corners of the structure and all important junctions. This results in a very stable platform, perfectly suited to large platforms or long installations.

Why does this rule work for all configurations?

These recommendations are calculated to cover all possible shapes while eliminating lateral or longitudinal movements that can weaken a dock over time.
With this number of piles:

  • The corners are securely anchored.
  • the intermediate sections are reinforced,
  • the structure retains its rigidity properties,
  • The quay remains stable even under varying conditions.

Regardless of whether the customer opts for a long narrow dock, a square platform or an L-shaped configuration, the quantities offered ensure a durable and safe installation.

How to choose the height of your piles?

The choice of height simply depends on the water depth. We recommend the following rule:

Pile height = water depth + 2 feet

This margin allows for a solid anchor and appropriate seasonal adjustment. For reference:

  • Up to 2 feet of water: 6' piles
  • 2 to 3 feet of water: 8' piles
  • 3 to 4 feet of water: 10' piles
  • Over 4 feet: 12' piles

Conclusion

Moodulo docks are designed to be modular, easy to install, and perfectly suited to the realities of Quebec lakes. By following this universal rule based on the number of modules (6, 8, or 12 piles), you obtain a stable, durable structure compatible with all possible configurations.
